As the summer days dwindle down on the calendar and we turn our eyes toward fall (as all hopeful as they may be for that COOLER WEATHER) I am reminded by the strong bounty that fall always brings.
The early morning hunts, the late afternoon brisk air, the strong wind that blows through the pastures and wraps around you like a blanket; fall is the all-encompassing season.
My love affair with the fall season really started in college. I can remember coming back from dinner at the dorms and the cool air in Lubbock around me, zipping my fleece up a little tighter. I loved the feel of the cool nip on my sock-less ankles above my Sperry’s, and knowing the need to break out a heavy jacket was just around the corner.
Fall shelters in a rejuvenated spirit, a fresh take. The summers are long in Texas and the chances to sit outside by the fire and enjoy the cool night air (and not sweat to death) are only afforded a couple of months later in the year. The evenings spent riding horses around the ranch, or taking the ranger and four wheelers for a spin at dusk with my girls…it’s always the little things.
With dove season opening in a few weeks, football tailgates, and deer camps abound, the reasons to be out in the great outdoors are plentiful and upcoming. So get ready to get out there; shoot some birds, drink some beers, cheer on your favorite team, shoot a poor defenseless deer, ride with the wind in your face or just sit outside and stare up at the stars…cause fall is just around the corner.
